The Film Analysis of Lance - Raging Bull

ZZZZPosted by Hellray on Saturday, April 17, 2010 , under | comments (0)

This film was adapted according the real life of Jake La Motta, the former Middle Weight boxing champion in the world. Jake La Motta, the Italian boxer who was born in Brooklyn of New York with sturdy body and quick movement, was called “Raging Bull” in boxing field. Director Martin Scorcese tried to unveil the contradiction of humanity though the career of the great boxing champion.

It is necessary to mention the main actor of this film, Robert De Niro, before we go on to analysis this film.

If a person is too narcissism, it is very tormenting. He will torment not only others but also himself. That is De Niro. In case of the limit of NG is 4 or 5 times for other actors, De Niro can make it more than 30 times, because of worrying about himself.

This is not the only way to torture. When he was dissatisfied with his partner, he would shout with abuse to him:”I’m gonna bust your grape!” De Niro hates any director who attempts to direct the next step of his performing. Suppose anybody does, his face will look rather bad.

Certainly, he was better at suffering himself. He could buy thousand of costumes in order to look more like the character. He would go to the factory to work to experience the script. He also can exercise himself to be a muscle man, and then destroy the muscles by gluttony, if it is necessary.

Returning to the film, the beginning of Raging Bull is pretty cool. Jake La Motta (by Robert De Niro) wore the capote. I don’t know whether there was sweat or rainwater on the capote. It is so excited when Jack was doing the warming on the boxing ring under the dim light. There were looming audiences around the ring and three very thick horizontal ropes coming into view. The ropes round the La Motta whose motions were shot in high-speed (low motion). So that the scene looked having a clear metaphor. Jack La Motta was like a wild animal in the cage which was watched. He moved around and roared but useless. It is Martin’s films that can describe the opposites.

Jack La Motta was a poor man. On the boxing ring, he was a hero. He can beat down any opponent. But in his private life, he was timid, slow and suspicious. In order to get rid of his cat-and-dog life with his ex-wife, he went to pub with his brother. And to pursuit of a girl, named Vickie, was another purpose. He was timid so he let his brother to date Vickie for him. And when La Motta brought Vickie to take the air, he attempted to put his arm on girl’s shoulder, but he still had no guts to do that only stayed his arm on the chair back. They played skittle ball. The girl hit the ball and the ball was disappeared. They found around but the ball still hid in mystery. They felt so boring. After that they go to La Motta’s father’s house. At first, La Motta opened the fridge and asked the girl what she wanted to eat. She said no. Then he closed the fridge and sat with Vickie beside one table. They sit face to face and nothing to talk. La Motta told her to sit a bit close. Then the girl sat the side of the table, still nothing to say. Finally Jack told Vickie to sit on his leg. The girl followed but didn’t know what to say as well. This period of action looks so funny. A great boxer in the boxing ring seemed so bashful. Following that when Vickie saw the photo of Jack and his brother, he stand behind the girl, kissed her, and kissed her again. In this awkward situation, Jack La Motta didn’t say any words to relax the atmosphere. The boxer is a rough man, he couldn’t say any wisecracking words. Through this period scene, the personality of boxer was showed pretty incisively and vividly. The film was so different that made people think the images were truth instead of film scene.

“Did you fuck with my brother?” boxing champion questioned his wife with nervous sound again and again. At this time, the champion had already broken down. After that La Motta rushed into his brother, Joey’s house and almost killed him. When he hit his brother, elder Martin used the POV to show Jack’s craze and Joey’s fear. Before that on his way to his brother’s home, a period of long shot express Jack was like an animal and nobody can stop him. Jack walked fast, and then his wife caught him but still can’t make him reduce the speed a bit. He was like a red-eye bull. The boxing champion was able to control the ring, but couldn’t catch his life. It seemed a bit sad.

Hey, Ray. I never went down. You never got me down, Ray.” After he kept two years of Middle Weight boxing champion in the world, he was defeated by a player who was beat down by himself several years ago. These two years was the most brilliant two years in Jack La Motta’s life. Martin Scorcese chose a period of life recorded by family camera with color, it is the only part with color in this film, and added an easy music of light opera. In this color part, the elder Martin used fast motion to express the happy mood. But after these two years, he was defeat. He didn’t go down, though the fist punched him like raindrops. He was a unbending soul. On the boxing ring, he could be defeated; he faced fail, but never went down. That was an attitude to face the loss. Here, slow motions were very prefect to show the hesitate and scare in his opponent’s mind. Many close shot focused on Jack’s face, hands and legs. His hands caught the rope of the ring, and slide, and caught again. His blood flew down the shaking legs, mixed sweat. These close shots gave us an image of a tough guy.

In my opinion, this film was not the real legend of boxing champion Jack La Motta. The director Martin Scorcese wanted to show us that nobody is prefect, nobody is too atrocious to forgive. A great boxer in the ring might be an evil in his private life. On the other hand, the elder Martin let the audience to discover how the jealous made a man into an animal, and destroyed all his life. If we analysis the person who created by the elder Martin separately, on the boxing ring, he was a brave heart and sturdy warrior; in his private life, he was a selfish animal. He didn’t care about anyone except himself. Perhaps Martin Scorcese just wanted to express this kind of contradiction in order to reflect on ourselves.

Marija's Film Analysis - Do the Right Thing

ZZZZPosted by Hellray on Friday, April 16, 2010 , under | comments (1)

Director and actor Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing is a film depicting racial conflict in the city of New York during 1980's. It centres around a group of African Americans, Italians and a Korean couple sharing a block in Brooklyn and the anger and frustration they feel towards each other which is only amplified by the intense heat throughout the film. The director makes it clear that the main theme in the film is racism by the conflicts that arise between the characters based on race. An example of this is when Radio Raheem is trying to buy batteries for his radio at the Korean store. He treats the owners, Sunny and Kim, with disrespect because of their race. Also with well thought out cinematography we are able to witness how these characters truly feel about one another and sharing their neighbourhood. Another theme in the film includes rage which is ultimately the cause of the consequences at the end of the film with no one willing to compromise but instead trying to solve their problems with anger and violence. The director shows this with the use of colours and medium shots of the characters. Conflict is also a theme that appears throughout the film with most of the characters getting into arguments over little things. This is portrayed in an interesting way through the use of colour and music.

The film allows the audience to experience a day in Brooklyn, New York on the hottest day of summer where the sun isn’t the only thing bringin the heat. The main character in the film is Mookie, played by Spike Lee, who is a young African American obsessed with money. He works in a pizzeria owned by Sal with his two sons Pino and Vito. Conflicts arise when Buggin Out demands that Sal put some pictures of African Americans on his wall of fame. Sal refuses which causes Buggin Out to seek help and boycott Sals pizzeria which results in severe consequences at the end of the film. You also get to see conflict between other characters throughout the film such as mother sister and Da Mayor.

Do the right thing deals with the issue of racism with the use of a diverse range of characters each representing different views on racial tension. One character that really stands out in the film is Radio Raheem. He represents the voice of African Americans or rather his stereo does with the song Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Spike Lee wanted this song to be the theme of young black America. Another character worth mentioning is Buggin Out. He is responsible for most of the racial tension in the film as he is the perfect example of discrimination based on race. This is shown in many scenes in the film especially the one where another character bumps into him and gets dirt on his new shoes. Buggin Out becomes furious and tells the man to get out of his neighbourhood even though the man says he was born there. This is because he is of different race.

As well as the characters cinematography is also used to describe how the characters of different race feel about each other. An example of this is the scene where the two white cops drive past the three black men who are always sitting at the corner. The shot is seen in slow motion so the audience have a lot of time to study the expressions of each character as they all stare at each other. There is a look of disgust on their faces which tells us that they have a strong feeling of hate towards each other. When the shot returns back to normal speed we hear the cops and the three men call each other a waste.

By using colour to set the mood spike lee has shown that rage is a strong theme in the film. A lot of the characters wear warm colours such as red and yellow. Buggin Out is wearing a yellow shirt and Radio Raheem wears a mix of red, yellow and orange. This not only represents the heat but is symbolic of the rage that the characters have inside because we know that these two characters show a lot of anger and violence throughout the film. Another example of this is the bright red wall that is seen behind the three men sitting at the corner. The colour of the wall represents the anger and frustration the men are feeling as they sit around and complain. The colour blue is also used in the film as the opposite to red. Da mayor is wearing a blue suit and this shows that he is not full of rage like most of the others but instead he is a calm character.

Spike Lee also uses cinematography to show rage throughout the film. In the scene where Sal smashes Radio Raheems stereo with a baseball bat all the shots are medium so we can see the characters express their rage not only through their facial expressions but through their actions and body language as well. The camera switches from character to character, mostly between Radio Raheem, Buggin Out and Sal, making the argument and the characters anger seem more intense by the second. As the argument progresses we see more and more of Sals body in the shots as his rage turns his words into actions and he starts to smash Radio Raheems stereo with the baseball bat.

There is a lot of conflict seen throughout the film that the director portrays in a symbolic way. In one scene conflict is shown between two characters with the use of music. the scene im referring to is when Radio Raheem is walking down the street and a group of men tell him to turn of his music. When he doesn’t turn it off one of the men steps forward as if he’s challenging him and turns his own music up. Radio Raheem responds to this by turning his music up even higher. This is symbolic in the way that their stereos represent their voices shouting at each other. Another way this theme is represented is through the use of colour. An example of this is the colour of clothing that the brothers Pino and Vito wear. Pino is shown wearing white and Vito is wearing black which shows that they have entirely different personalities and views on race which explains why they are constantly fighting. Sals personality is also reflected through the colour of his clothing which is green. This shows that Sal is a neutral character and this is also the way he feels about black and white people. Another scene I think portrays this theme is when Radio Raheem explains the relationship between love and hate to Mookie. "Let me tell you the story of right hand - left hand, the tale of good and evil". I think this is a good example of the battle between the right thing to do and the wrong thing which is clearly something SpikeLee wants his audience to think about. When Radio Raheem explains this his dialogue and movements are aggressive showing us the conflict between the two sides: good and evil, love and hate. This also symbolises the conflict between the different races in the film.

Spike Lee uses these three themes in his film to send out a message showing the audience the racial conflicts at that time that still exist today and that there are always decisions to be made and whether you choose the right one or the wrong one there will always be consequences. By ending the film with quotes from both Martin Luther King Jr and Malcom X, one against violence and one for it, it leaves the audience to think about what really is the right thing.

Do the right thing , Fight the power

Hong(2912)'s film analysis Do The Right Thing

The movie I want to talk about is Do The Right Thing, which is directed by Spike Lee. I loved this movie most among all the movies we have seen before. The little stories it contained are very powerful and set me thinking. Everyone is an epitome of this society. They have different personality, some of them are cowardice, they affair to fight, some of them are brave, they understand what they want and fight for them, even it will hurt themselves. I am going to talk about the way Spike Lee used to introduce audiences into this movie —— a woman dancing, the main place where most fight happen, and I want to talk about the characters as well. When I saw Martin's photo in this film I realize it would be the story about black people who want to “fight the power”. But until the end, I didn’t find anyone who really fight the power.

So what exactly the “right thing” is?

This movie is about the daily life of some black guys live in New York. Many trifling things make up this simple, but serials movie. Love daddy keeping saying something which is hard to understand, some guys stand on the street to quarrel about trifles, a idiocy always hold some photos to sell…some guys talk in the street and make some trouble for police…It’s seems like it is a common film at the beginning, But everything happens in the last minutes shocks everybody. Everything is mess. People fight, shout. What irony is the Korean man hit the police when they try to carry Radio Raheem away, but when some black people want to go into his shop, he hold the sweeper and shout that he is black.

At the beginning, the director shot a woman dancing for a really long time, if you listen to the background music carefully you can hear the lyrics contains these words “got to give us what we want, going to give us what we need, our freedom of speech is freedom or death, we got to fight the powers that be, let me hear you say. Fight the power”. The woman dancing very powerful, and she even begin to boxing. As we all know, boxing is a really powerful sport, and see somebody boxing can make people feel exciting too. That is the reason why Spike Lee chose this action.
There are many different shot about this, and the director used close shot to show the woman’s face, she seems like very enjoy and powerful . Then love daddy appear, and keeping saying“wake up wake up”. It seems like he is balderdash, but in fact, this is a way the director tell everyone to wake up to realize the real world by using love daddy’s mouse.

This movie doesn’t have any fantastic sequences, only a street, a shop, this two are almost all the stories happen. But just these things, give us a real cool movie. The wall which in Sal’s shop named “WALL OF FAME” is the reason of most fight. Buggin and Radio Raheem both argue with Sal due to this wall doesn’t have anyone who is black man. In this movie, everyone is in the same level, black people is not higher than white people, or white people is more respectable than black people. Black always said we should elimination of racial discrimination, but they are also the man who confront it. In this movie, black people are too sensitive, they have the thought that they are lower than white people, that is the reason why they want to see black people’s picture in the pizza shop? No black people’s picture on the wall, so what? It doesn’t mean anything. But they think that means they are not respected. Sal is kind to Mookie’s sister, he thought Sal has some bad ideas.

What is the most important stuff in this movie is the character.

Sal, who is a kind guy, until the end of this film I still think he is very nice, even thought he is strict to Mookie. Sal is kind to smiley when Pino shout at him. Mookie ruin his shop's window, then other people rush in and burn it, everyone will be crazy if their shops were ruined by their worker, but he still pays Mookie money. He thinks the radio is too noisy and ask Raheem to turn the radio off, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. But Radio Raheem refuses to turn off, so they fight, what happen next is, police appear, and killed Radio Raheem as an accident. People feel angry, so they choose to break Sal’s shop to express their rage. Poor Sal! Buggin argues with him many times due to the photos on the wall don't have anyone who is black, by the way, I think Buggin is really a ridiculous man, what he like to do is hang around and argue with others, like trouble maker. Sal thought that is his wall, he has the right to decide whatever he want to hang, maybe he just doesn't like to compromise to others. They argue about this again and again. If buggin really wants to prove something, this is not what he should do. There are other things which are more worth him to do.
The other hero Mookie, he may be the reason the director set to stand opposite against Sal. Mookie has a family, and the first scene of him, he is counting his money in a very dark room, and he is very happy. We can tell that he loves money so much that through all the movie we can keep hearing he say to Sal “Can you pay me money now?” At the beginning he always the man who stops the fight in Sal’s pizza shop, he doesn’t have any dream, he just help deliver pizza, try to make his wife happen, and earn money to support his family, that’s it. Even at last he breaks the windows, which is also all he did. He stands there, and just watches. Doesn’t rush in to fight, doesn’t stop it too. What exactly he is thinking about? Nobody knows.

I have to say that I really love Radio Raheem, especially the scene when he show love and hate use his special ring . He always carry the radio, and always win when other one let he turn off. But also because of this, he died at last. In my opinion he is the real hero in this movie, the radio always play the music “fight the power”, and one scene is one guy is listening to some music, Radio Raheem pass him and the guy require he to turn off the radio, he doesn’t say any word. Then the guy turn up the voice, and Radio Raheem turn up the radio voice too, then the guy said “you win”. How cool the Radio Raheem is!

Da mayor is also a nice guy. He often be made fun by some young guys, but he doesn’t care about that, he just be himself. He is also the one who said “do the right thing”. He save a child, but the child doesn’t thank him, and his mother even blames him at first, we can tell that do right thing can not always have the good ending. But in the other way, he makes mother sister respect him.
After watched this film, I don’t know whether I should have sympathy for them or not, for Sal, he live in an area where most people around he is black, why can’t he just hang one photo of black people? He did nothing wrong, why his shop be the victim of this confrontation? For Mookie, how impulse he is. What he get from this? Losing job, and breaking with Sal…
What exactly the RIGHT THING is? I can just say it depends. Do the black guys ruin Sal's shop is the right thing? Does Mookie break his boss's shop first and let himself lose the job is the right thing? Does the Radio Raheem insist hand black people’s photo is the right thing? Black people can fight for their right not by violence, just like smiley draw a crown on Martin. Martin is the man who is against violence. Smiley gives him a crown, but some other black guys are doing the opposite thing.

Sunny Sun's film analysis lost in translation
This movie made by Sofia Coppola at 2003,this movie describe a old movie star meet a new marriage woman at Tokyo, Japan. The different cultural environment, and unhappy marriage life make their close.

At the whole movie, the background view always is the bustling night view of Tokyo,
make the two main characters seem waxy and alone. Especially at the Tokyo luxury hotel, high quality equipments , different kinds of entertainment, but the for the two main characters, Chatlotte(Scarlett Johansson) always sit at front of window and see the outside of hotel and waiting for her husband, for the Bob(Bill Murray) ,he just busy his advertisement ,talk with the strangers and attend the entertainment program which is so terrible for him. Back to the beginning of the movie ,Bob first come Tokyo, at the taxi, hi surprise with what he is seeing .
So that the biggest of Mise-en-scene of this movie is the alluring, hilarious, and always elusive city, Tokyo. In this movie ,the director shows a lot of Japanese staff for audiences, like the Japanese Temple, Japanese wedding, likebana, crowded people ,building groups. Director use lots of long shots to show the special view and cultural of Japan.

I still remember a scenes which is Chatlotte stand at street of Tokyo.Stare the great dinosaur in the screen of building, the strangers round her ,at here ,director use long shot to show Chatlotte how lonely she is. Before this , director have put another two scenses, one is Chatlotte call her friend to complain her life in Tykyo, but her friend did not mention it, and the other one is she talk with her husband, they do not have any common in communication . All of this show Chatllotte’s lonely heart.

For Bob ,he come Japan for his carrer, but it is not easy to understand the requirement of Japanese. At the scenes of the shoting advertisement, director use close-up to show him expression, the audiences can watch his face is lost, his expression make audiences feel funny, but I feel this kind misunderstanding make him afraid, even though scared. And the hooker at hotel ,director use the long shot to show the whole room, this is really funny scenes, misunderstanding again!! “Lip” or “rip” ,this is a question!! When the photographer take photo for him , he always request Bob to act other famouse actor, Bob just respect the photographer’s request, but direct use the medium shot to show Bob is so disappointed cause no one is real him.

This movie name is lost in translation, actually the characters do not say “lost”, but this is one scenes use some special way to show audiences what director want to say.
It is Chatlotte sit on the floor of hotel room to listen a CD, this man’s face use POV shows to audience, I did not find the real author of this book, but in this rodio he said * “Did you ever wonder what your purpose in life is? This book is about finding your soul’s purpose or destiny. Every soul has its path, but sometimes that path is not clear.
The inner map theory is an example of how each soul begins with an imprint. All compacted into a pattern that has been selected by youe soul…”*

When the two main character first meet is at lift, Chatlotte just smile for Bob, but shi did not mention it. They are beginning to interesting to each other is at the bar of hotel, the background music is a slow music –Scarborough Fair, maybe, I guess this song make this two people find the lonely soul same with themselves.
From then on ,the other mise-en-scene of this movie become more and more clare: relationship .
Charlotte and her husband, her husband and Evelyn Waugh, Bob and Chatlotte, Bob and his wife, ect.

When they first talking, Charlotte asked what are you doing here, Bob’s answer is ver interesting , I think. He said: “Uh, a coupe of things, taking a break from my wife, forgetting my son’s birthday and getting paid $2 million to endorse a whiskey when I could be doing a play somewhere.” * Bob tell his life for Charlotte with comedy way ,when they begin to communicate to each other, the just take care and still strange for each other ,just say hi or talk few sentences . Director use medium shot to show their relationship. After Charlotte’s husband left, they become closer, at here, director use long shot to show they are very happiness in the strange environment. They join the party of Japanese , run on the street of Tokyo , singing at the Koraoke . The seems find the way at desert , and get a shot happy time. If we mention, the background music change to rock and pop music, not the Jazz or blues . After they revelry, and back to hotel , they seems back a jail or cage.
Bob get her wife’s package , all of the samples of rug, her wife care about decoration of house more than Bob, their talking can touch his soul.
There is one scense ,director use extra long shot , Bob play golf at the big golfcourse
,the background is Fujiyama under the cloud ,we can not see Bob’s face , but Bob’s back looks so lonely.

There is important mise-en-scene is cultural different, it is work at all of this movie ,for example , hospital, Charlotte hurt her toe ,and need to go to hospital, although the doctor say a lot to her, but she can not get anything. And the restaurant , Karaoke , bar, gameshop, these is all different for this two people.
Director use long shot to show this mise-en-scene.

Acturally It can change any strange city, the only requirement is unfamiliar, must have the obstacles must be unable to communicate to protect themselves. Charlotte and to Bob, as long as it's culture and life is full of heterogeneity, enough to show because too familiar and strangeness need. The telephone at the moment in the end was abandoned because of strange and familiar, can be arbitrary disposal, become no scruples about language and behavior of the oppressed.
At the end of movie , Bob will left , when he see the back of , he just catch
her and give her a hug, although I do not know what Bob talk talk with Charlotte, but I can see the smile on their face. This is enough for their lonely soul. And at this scenes, director use close-up ,than long shot ,and the background music change mass music to soft, slowly music. It seems tell the audiences then find their lost soul.

At this movie, there are not many dialogue between main character, they just use a smiling or expression ,then they can understand each other.

For the color of this movie ,most use the grey color, even the Tokyo bustling night view seems cover a lightly cloud, this kind of color shows a lonely feeling.

For the clothes of characters, although Charlotte is a young woman , but she just wear the simple, even a little mass, and Bob, he usually wear suit, but at the night they were revel together. Charlotte dress up, and Bob change his black suit to yellow t-shirt, because both of them are introvert beside the meet the people who really know them, they will show real them.

What is lost? What they lost?
Charlotte lost in her unhope life, no work, no friend, not very close with husband , Bob lost in his mass life, he lost his famous, his wife, his son.
And at the end of movie ,they both lost their soul mate.

film analysis

Aiwen tao’s Lost in translation
People come into a totally different country, strange language and unsuitable lifestyle by themselves. Therefore, people lost themselves, lost in translation. Lost in translation is a low cost film was made by director Sofia Coppola. It describe a pure soul feeling in modern people’s heart was different from other Hollywood film.
The whole film was filled by loneliness and contradiction and sex. Audience according these to feel film and find some part same with their life. The director and screenwriter choose the best mise-en-scene , cinematography, actor’s line, lighting effects even the clothing and face-printing to make the film more perfect. There are many details worth “tasting” by us.

The mise-en-scene is value mentioned in lost in translation. People who know well about scenario also know that first scene of film is really important: start—the key point, it is the important element that can catch audience’s attention. Audience via the around 10 minutes can know what is the film said and decide should they continue watching the film. In the first 10 minutes of lost in translation, we see the multicolored Tokyo, see the outdat Hollywood star also see an unhappy wife. The best part is we see the star was tormented by the terrible translator when they take advertising. Lost in translation, the scene is interesting and points the topic. This start of the film is successful; the key characters all show up and tell the relevant environment. Throughout the film gives out the loneliness between each person, moreover show some small funny things.
How to make a wonderful start lead to an amazing end is a difficult thing for every screenwriter. No excepted Sofia, the best way is she choose Tokyo—the place she know well about and choose Hollywood’s star as the story’s Bob. This is because her family and life that gives her a big help in this film. A perfect film should have one or two scenario turning point to let audience feel excited about film. When the film show around half hour, the Bob and charlotte have the first official meeting they are chatting in the pub. Before this, they just communicate by sight. In order to make this meeting more suitable in moral, screenwriter arranges a marriage without love for the Bob and arrange an irresponsible husband for charlotte. Everything is ready, so the first turning point was set in here.
However, pass this night the life of Bob and Charlotte both have new change. As a scenario to see, when characters turn into can’t back drama conflict this mean the good show will start. How they play this dialogue, the director set a long distance between them and the background is the dark night of Tokyo. This scene use almost 4minutes also is the most important dialogue scene since film start. The following, Sofia use heavy share to describe the relationship become closer between them. They start the crazy travel in Tokyo. Compare the quiet and lonely hotel with lively and boiling pub. The follow take moving scene in Japanese game room to give voice to their relax mood. The singing scene at friend’ home also take a long time to show the progressive relationship between them and start flirt.
In later stages in the movie, Charlotte and Bob are noticeably more intimate. The climax happens when Charlotte and Bob are at the hospital. Actor’s speaking become much and the smile of actress also more. On the one hand, story provider more material to romance this point but toward the thing for lost in translation this aspect is less. Stay in different culture environment, the life bring the conflict and people have the conflict with marriage are the two major element consist of this wonderful film. In the middle and end part of film, the director minus the first conflict and add the second conflict. The second scenario turning point is 2/3 part of whole film. It is a show on the bed but the director just gentle let them chatting on the bed, actually it is a dialogue show. It is same as the first dialogue in pub, via the dialogue they touch other person’ heart slowly and clearly know about their life and position. This scene is same as first turning point but the environment is changed to bed that make more ambiguous. After this scenario the life about Bob and Charlotte are changed to another phase, develop toward to the end they already imaged.
Also, the cinematography is important in this film and film use many shot skills. The first shot is a recumbent only wear underpants woman’s shadow, long reach 30 seconds, no dialogue no music just the breath of the women bring the quietness. There have purpose to wear—there no people always visit personal home she can wear underpants at home。No move, no environment just an immobile shot show to audience.
The cameras shot the street scene outside the car window for many times and shot Bob’s silent expression inside car. The car window becomes the voile between audience and film is truth but cloudiness. The braveness outside the window is the different world of the silent inside the window. The strong contrast causes big fall in audience’ heart. Many people have the same experience, the same feeling cause reins resonance.
The raining day in Tokyo Street, Charlotte walking slowly in crowded people and bring the plastic umbrella, the camera take the long shot for actress. We can’t sure that director deliberately make or accidentally make, the rain beat the crystal surface of umbrella that cause the bead reflect the beautiful shine. That foils the unhappy face of Charlotte under the umbrella. The camera uses a nature angle to shot the nature feeling of Charlotte.
The camera like eyes hides the corner. The special eyes always find different visual of the world. Camera not only is a shot tool but also is a man, the man use his special vision follow the actors and record the one move one action of actors. It hides the place where people most ignored place to take the nature part of them. Like behind the light in pub, above the big bed in this film.
The lighting effects play an important role in this film. The scenes in film always stay at street, hotel, pub and shot locale. Most of these scene use the soft light, at one time use the fill light. Use fill light that further can use around dark serve as a foil to show the looming face expression and contour in the camera lens. At the same time, these contour and expression behave not clear under the soft light effects. All kinds of light adorn the night piece and more show the alone sadness behind the fantastic night. People’s soul always like that light even if it flickers colorful that just the life makes a joke to destine.
One scene in the film is Bob and Charlotte sit beside the desk in pub one left one right. Here, director not gives more light on their faces; maybe deliberately use the light outside window make a contrast with light of pub. Drink and cigarette all reflect more sore color under the dark light.
For the face-painting and clothing in the film have it own meaning. First is weak make up, the weaker make up more close to life. However, as a film can’t without make up, hence, the film give audience the image about make up is you can see it but you know it. This is the highest level of make up. Second is clothing, the film show the modern life lead the clothing should close to life. The Charlotte wear the pink underpants in the beginning of film is the deep clothing effects of director. With the follow scenes, Charlotte wear pink coat and white shirt is catch the eye in the group. But it gives us a nature feel. These original clothing can make film really close to life like the post said:” Everyone wants to be found”.
About the actor’s line. There are two sentences give me deep impression. One is “Your life as you know it is gone never to return” said by Bob. This line represents Bob face the middle age crisis and worry about the family trivia and responsibility. Other one is “The more you know how you are and what you want the less you let thing upset you” said by Bob. This describes Bob’s thinking and acknowledge about life.
Whole film gives us many thinking and moral. It is a perfect film deal with any conflict well with original story. The cinematograph shot any scene is suitable and give audience big space to image. Director and screenwriter arrange well about the location and property within the mise-en-scene. The lighting make a wonderful environment for many special shots also the face-maker play a super amazing role in this film. Many brilliant lines can give audience deep impression in their memories.

Suxing’s analysis of virgin suicide
“You have not been around girl, you are not old enough to know what tragedy there is in life.” “Obliviously doctor you never been a 13-year-old girl.” After watching "Virgin Suicides" this conversation between doctor and first suicide girl Cecilia is the deepest image of mine. We all been teenager, do you still remember the period during adolescent? "Virgin Suicides" may fresh the memory of you.
Introduction
"Virgin Suicides" is a film talking about adolescent men and women. It directed by women director Sofia Coppla, this film is for her virgin. She is also the screen-writer, actress and producer. (From reference)She was the third female film director to be nominated for an Academy Award for Directing. (From reference) Film is base on novel; the fiction writer is Jeffrey Eugenides. The whole film takes 97 minutes.
Brief summary
The Virgin suicides is a beautiful story about five sisters, and their mysterious existence, told in the words of the neighborhood boys who worshiped them and who come together 20 years later to try and solve the mystery of the Lisbon sisters. (From reference) It is a solitary story of the girls isolation and the sleepy portrayal of how they watched powerless as their fragile lives disappeared(From reference). Whole story happen at a small town in the Midwest, the time is about 1970s. Lisbon family the father, Ronald, is a math teacher at the local high school and the mother is a homemaker(From reference). They’ve got 13-year-old Cecilia, 14-year-old Lux, 15-year-old Bonnie, 16-year-old Mary, and 17-year-old Therese (from reference)
Theme 1-Analysis
Talk about first suicide girl Cecilia. Five daughters the youngest only 13 years old Cecilia has already lost faith in life, for many times she wants to commit suicide, same like other adolescent girls, Cecilia love fantasy but maybe too much, as the evaluation of the boys to her "do not know what she was thinking, she was living in her own world" It’s true Cecilia always living in her world, she against real life, she has her own ideas about life but it seems still childish, she is extremely vulnerable and fragile, like the other four girls, but to the youngest girl Cecilia she seems more sensitive than others. She’s too fragile to across the threshold of puberty. She committed suicide in the bathroom holding Jesus’ card in her hand, I think she wanted to escape from real life to a better world she thinks. But she did not succeed. The doctor saves her. The doctor explained to Cecilia’s parents that "Cecilia did not want to commit suicide, she just wanted to arouse the attention of her family, nothing more." Doctors believe will be fine if Cecilia spends more time to contact with heterosexual, but it is the real fact? Maybe not like that simple. Parents began to organize opportunities for five daughters to contact with boy, but Cecilia is still depression, still can’t get out of her own world. At one night, she has chosen to jump off the beyond to end of her shot life. So in there, director by using the character Cecilia’s death to change the plot of the whole movie,. Youngest daughter died for this family is a huge blow,so their dogmatic and conservative parents began to do more severe discipline to the other four girls.

Theme 2-Analysis
Talk bout other 4 adolescent girls who actually get suicide at last. The most gorgeous girl among their 4 daughters is our hero Lux, she is the main character of this movie and she drives the plot. The opening shot of this film is to use close-up shot to present her beauty. Lux’s beautiful face comes for a long time in the air appears dull, fuzzy image. Detractor wants use this shot show us, it actually not a very real story, it’s the memory from the boys who are the neighbor of Lisbon family. This movie is their memory so the story is not very true, just likes Lux's face in the sky, like blurred. At the middle of the film, Lux’s boyfriend leave her, after that Lux begin to indulge her disposition casually, although she was locked at home by parents, she still deliberately smoking on the beyond at midnight to look sultry, because she knows the boys in voyeurism, she would like it to lure them. After the Lux’s lure, 5 boys escape from girl's parents, secretly go to Lux's home. When they came to the room the girl was found suicide in addition to Lux, 5 boys fled in panic. Lux's body was also found in a car next day. Five young girls commit suicide one after another, no one can understand.
Whole story is very simple, there is no soul-stirring thing in this movie, just telling the story of 5 girls go to suicide step by step. But it left a question to the audience, five young and beautiful girls why they so extreme to choose suicide? The film does not directly tell the audience so we need to think. Adolescent men and women, hormones are very strong normally encourage them to become fidget or depression. People in this period are usually more sensitive at the same time they are more vulnerable. For naturally, girls even more sensitive, they are more like fantasies in adolescence, they are very fragile and prone to depression. Because Lisbon’s five daughters’ natural character plus inappropriate parental guidance, the symptoms of puberty is more obvious in these 5 girls. At last, they kill themselves, maybe they want to use in this way to protest their parents’ self-righteousness. Perhaps no one can understand the idea of these 4 adolescent girls. We can only guess, as to the real cause of the girls’ suicide, we are hard to say. Adolescent girls may have same feeling like five girls in the movie.Maybe only them can figure the 5 girls out.

Theme 3-Analysis
Talk about Lisbon family. Surface, Lisbon family has an enviable, excellent family environment, coupled with five beautiful daughters. The main action of the first 5 minutes of the movie is staffs are examining the tree and prepare to cut it. It introduces the tree in front of Lisbon’s villa already necrosis, it seems like not very important but why the film spends long time to present this necrosis tree to audience? Surface, It shows the appearance of tree is tall and lush while the inside of the tree already necrosis. But the main goal of the movie is want to tell the audience this tree is just like Lisbon’s family, the appearance Lisbon’s family is a happy family, in fact Lisbon’s family already appeared crisis which is very difficult to resolve.

Theme 4-Analysis
Talk about girls’ parents. How can the 4 adolescent girls to accept such strict parents care? In the process of 4 girls make friends with boys, beautiful Lux caused the attention of the school's heartthrob, he began to pursue Lux, pay many attentions to her, he ultimate success of Seek the Lux. They go to the party together. They attract each other. At end of the night after ball they have sex on the playground. Lux did not come home one night caused her mother’s angry. She locks Lux and the other three daughters at home. Meanwhile, Lux’s boyfriend abandoned Lux. Mother forced her to burn her favorite album. How bad they did to their children? They think they've done good things for their children. But is that really good to lock four daughters at home? The outside world for them is completely unable to see. They only can rely on the music through phone to warm their injuries hearts. They think that in this way their children are very safe. But the girls are getting weird, also caused fantasy of their own genes, they become very depressed, they can only be cranky all day. Their parents isolated them let them be even more extreme and fragile. Stubborn parents are not have very good communication with them, cannot truly understand their own daughters. I thought the parents’ wrong guidance is the main reason cause the tragedy. Their care and love is too extreme, girls cannot accept their parent’s education. But the stubborn parents still disapproval, they think they do the right thing to their children and even at last the stubborn mother still saying "children should be happy, how safe to stay at home. What is so bad?" Her mother still cannot understand until she loses her 5 daughters.

Theme 5-Analysis
Talk about director and cinematographer. Director Sofia Coppla her first try is great, we cannot image how this film will be if they use a male director. She make this film seems very feminine and that what we want to see, cause this movie is about the story of 5 girls. She detailed description of the adolescent girls.
All the audience got a weird feeling for a long time after girl’s suicide. We unable extricate ourselves from the movie. One of the successes in this movie is manufacturing a kind of strange atmosphere of depression, breathless. Cinematographer create the proper atmosphere for the film, they using a lot of yellow, blue lights to help describe the depress feeling of the 5 girls. They use many close-up shots to show emotion, like they usually shot Lux’s face. Also lots of long shots to describe the environment of place which whole story happen. Using some slow motion to present girls’ fidget and depression. They use some extreme close-up shots to present the adolescent girls’ beautiful.

I believe the main goal of this film is to warn all of us audience to concern about the adolescent young men and women, parents need to communicate with them, give them more understanding and helping to avoid tragedy.
Like "Virgin Suicides" movie, like the yellow images. she was the memory of 5 boys, also the memories of youth from each of us. it is sad but very beautiful.
